Canada Powered by Women Mobilizes Collective Voice of Engaged Women to Drive Real Change in Government’s Major Project Consultation

CALGARY, ALBERTA (June 8, 2026) — Following a cross-country tour connecting in-person with hundreds of women this spring, Canada Powered by Women (CPW) is mobilizing its network to participate in the federal government’s 30-day public consultation on major project regulatory reform.

The federal government’s proposed reforms, outlined in the discussion paper Getting Major Projects Built in Canada, aim to cut red tape and establish a “one project, one review” system with a target approval timeline of no more than one year. For CPW, this is a major opportunity to directly align government policy with the economic priorities of Canadian women.

“Millions of women across the country have told us they are deeply concerned about Canada’s economic future,” said Tracey Bodnarchuk, Founder & CEO of Canada Powered by Women. “Their message is clear: regulatory delays and complex, burdensome polices on major projects are our biggest threat to prosperity. Backed by objective and informed data and analysis by Deloitte and PwC, along with our annual national survey conducted by Leger, we are delivering this direct feedback to Ottawa to ensure women’s voices influence important changes to Canada’s energy policy landscape.”

CPW’s submission is backed by two major reports detailing women’s perspectives that are highly relevant to the government’s request for feedback on current energy policy related to major projects. Backed by Deloitte’s report on the lived experiences of Canadian women, and a PwC study highlighting the nationwide perspectives of female business executives, the submission gives policymakers a clear, complete picture of what Canadian women from communities to boardrooms want to see in policy reform.

Key insights from CPW’s work reflected in the submission include:

  • The “Delivery Credibility Gap”: CPW’s national survey revealed that a staggering 92% of engaged women agree that moving too slowly on major projects is Canada’s biggest prosperity risk. Only 23% expressed high confidence in Canada’s current ability to get large projects approved and built.
  • A Call for “Smart Speed”: Women want to see a regulatory framework that prioritizes “one project, one process,” enforceable timelines, and predictable regulatory paths.
  • Economic Pragmatism: The economy is the bottom line. Women view energy assets as strategic national leverage to lower the cost of living, support good paying jobs, fund social programs, and maintain global competitiveness.

“Women have declared – It’s time for action.” said Sue Riddell Rose, Canada Powered by Women Founder & Board Chair. “Our research shows engaged women evaluate energy policies through a practical lens, prioritizing affordability, stable jobs, and a strong economy. While environmental performance remains important, we cannot pursue new standards at the expense of Canadians’ prosperity. Continuous regulatory uncertainty is too costly in today’s global economy. We must move from ambition to execution to reset Canada’s course, attract capital investment, and turn the tide for our country.”

About Canada Powered by Women: Canada Powered by Women (CPW) is a growing movement of women across Canada, united in the responsible development of our natural resources and the energy policies needed to advance it. By translating evidence and on-the-ground dialogue into actionable guidance, CPW aims to amplify women’s collective voices to drive prosperity for all Canadians.

About the Leger Research: Survey data is from a study conducted via Leger’s online panel (LEO) from February 11 – February 16, 2026. Data was weighted to ensure proper representation of engaged women across Canada and the survey was offered in both English and French. Engaged women aged 18 or older are defined as: women who read/listen to local, national, or US news and are familiar with federal, provincial, or municipal politics; and women interested in influencing government, helping with issues facing Canadians, informed about the economy, learning about the future, prosperity, and wanting secure energy resources. Women who are strongly left on the political spectrum have been excluded.
